Bertha Ronzone Elementary, located in Northwest Clark County NV, is a multi-track school serving 865 students with 5 tracks. The school is designated as an “at risk” school with more than 60% of its students on a free or reduced lunch program. The school is approaching 50% of its students being designated as English Language Learners.

Ronzone is one of 10 public schools in Nevada that has been accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Association of Schools and Colleges. It has received this accreditation for the past three years.

The process requires the school to meet 10 standards that include the requirement of being substantiated by research, experience or the judgment of experienced educators. The school must annually demonstrate that it meets all requirements. The process is continuous and includes the school’s vision, profile, action plans and results. All of these aspects focus on student performance.

The school, which is approaching its 40th birthday, is in its seventh year as a multi-track school. Despite having a high transience rate, with students missing school or not being enrolled for long periods of time, Hal Smith's academic achievement level has increased during the past seven years.

Ronzone addresses the transient problem by placing these students on another track, while the classmates on their track are on vacation. Or they participate in an intersession activity Ronzone calls Extension Academics.

Through its attendance incentive program, Ronzone has been successful in raising its attendance rate to 95% in all sub groups, with the exception of one that attained a 94% rate.

The school has an active PTA, has secured numerous community partners, received a number of grants and has enlisted many community members to take part in tutoring or mentoring students.
